Maine weather outlook: Fall arrives this weekend feeling like summer

Fall becomes official Friday… but it will have to wait

After a cool end to August, those that were disappointed will have their redemption this weekend. Humidity levels all in all won’t be oppressive, but will be noticeable by the second half of the weekend. There have been several people that spoke up on the Pine Tree Weather Facebook page wondering about the weather for the Common Ground Fair and weddings this weekend. Any doubts at this point can be calmly erased.

Mountains and North Outlook

If you are desperately looking for sun, chances are good that it can be found by Thursday afternoon over the Crown of the state. As Jose gradually slides southeast of New England, the persistent clouds of the past few days finally begin to break up. Mountain areas of western regions may see the clouds break up later in the afternoon.

Outside of some patchy fog Friday morning, the sky clears out and presents a lovely start to the weekend.

After a brilliant day Saturday, a weak disturbance passing through central Quebec may touch off a brief shower over The County Sunday, while the mountains stay dry.

The work week starts off with continued summer warmth for Monday.

Clouds increase on Tuesday as weak trough approaches the region which may cause some shower activity on Wednesday.

Beyond that, what Maria does or doesn’t do will dictate what happens late week.

South and East Outlook

The breeze from Jose continues for coastal areas until Friday afternoon when Jose appears to be far enough south to turn the fan off.

An onshore flow is likely over the weekend into early next week, and as the humidity creeps back up, the risk of morning patchy fog is possible Monday and Tuesday.

Towards mid-week, a weak trough approaches the region which will add some clouds for Tuesday, and some showers are possible for Wednesday.

After that, it is up to Maria as that will determine the rest of the week.
